Yvonne Yeh, photographer

I’m a film photographer based in the Bay Area, California, and my relationship with the darkroom began at age 10 at summer camp. The magic of watching an image appear in a tray lit by red light hooked me instantly, and I’ve been chasing that feeling ever since.

35mm, medium format and instant film are my tools of choice, and I hold a particular soft spot for in-camera double exposures. I love the tactile ritual of loading film, the slower pace it asks of you, and the way happy accidents often reveal something more real than anything planned. My work leans toward storytelling — small moments, layered memories, and the organic, imperfect quality that only a physical medium can offer.

All my film is developed at home, in my bathroom! I scan all my film at Photo Laundry, a color darkroom in San Francisco, where I also volunteer as a team member.

Fun fact: I’m a card-carrying member of the Impossible Project — back from when shooting film felt… well, impossible.
